Interview: Uplift Cannabis Co-op

Petrolia, CA

Uplift’s mission is to ensure the success and viability of Mattole Valley small cannabis farms through careful, planned co-operation in all aspects of regulated commercial cannabis. They formed to help overcome the new burdens placed on family farms after marijuana legalization opened the door to larger corporate agriculture.

The Co-op is owned entirely by independent legacy farmers and was the first cannabis cooperative post-legalization. We interviewed cannabis farmer and co-op member Drew Barber about forming a co-op of small producers in the cannabis industry and about the unique qualities of the cannabis farms of the Mattole Valley.
